A song for Boris: What a Waste ...

Mrs Angry hears that today Boris has been making another of his flying visits to Broken Barnet.

Isn't it funny, citizens, that since he took office, the Mayor has entirely ignored us - oh, until the run up to the next election? Recently we have seen some generous high street handouts to the Tory stronghold at Chipping Barnet, and a deliberately delayed grant to the Dollis Valley Green Walk, sadly misspent, and not at all the PR success it was meant to be.

Thanks to the antics of Assembly Member and local Tory councillor Brian Coleman, the Barnet and Camden constituency has become the most marginal Tory held seat in London, and now Boris seems to feel a magnetic attraction to our borough, and has been making unannounced appearances.

Boris Johnson's new interest in Barnet, however, is expressed only in terms of a series of lightening strike photo opportunities, and no real chance of engagement with residents who might like to pose a series of challenging questions for him. That would be too risky, of course.

Remember the unfortunate chance meeting that our Mayor had, on his visit to the Boris Valley Greenwalk? Local resident Dennis Pepper took the opportunity to inform Mr Johnson of the unfortunate cock up by Barnet Council in spending the grant: local Tories were humiliated - and furious - at the embarrassing intrusion of reality into their big moment.

Well, never mind. Look what we have here, a tribute, in the form of a lovely message to Boris - a musical interlude, neatly expressing the views of so many voters here in Broken Barnet, and elsewhere - enjoy.

And how many times did Ken visit Barnet when he was Mayor, Mrs Angry?

I don't know, DCMD, because it was in the good old days, and that era has all merged into one big rosy haze of fond memories ... I think he probably visited more than Boris, however, possibly because I am slightly biased in his favour.

The truth is that outer London gets a raw deal from the Mayoralty and the Assembly, whoever is in power.

I presume Ken Livingstone uses Cricklewood station quite often, so technically (only) he visits Barnet quite often.

I wonder if Brian Coleman will be re-elected because voters, like DCMD for instance, decline to vote for him, but decide not to go the extra mile, and vote for the candidate who has the best chance of beating him.

However, hopefully, Conservative voters can vote for Boris, and vote Toty on the party list, thereby getting London-wide Conservative Assembly members. Some may, on the third voting slip, hold their nose and vote tactically.

Mrs Angry demands that all voters use their vote tactically to rid us of the burden of Brian Coleman. If you do not, she will find out who you are and where you live and come round to your house to shout insults through your letter box.

So much for the rule of law, and the right to vote in secret, Mrs A.

As comedian Tony Hancock once said,
"Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?

The eyes and ears of Mrs Angry are everywhere, Baarnett: nothing is secret from her.
